SCHOOL FIELD TRIPS & TOURS

Secondary Social Studies Students watch as Blacksmith Benny Crevitt demonstrates forging iron at historic Soule' Steam Feed Works. This group made the field trip to Meridian from McEvans School, West Bolivar County School District in Shaw, Mississippi.
Soulé Steam Museum enjoys sharing Mississippi's and America's industrial heritage with students. Field trips are welcomed March through December. Students from all types of educational settings...Public, Private, Charter and Homeschool...can learn important lessons by visiting this unique historic site. The Museum is located in historic Soule’ Steam Feed Works, America’s last steam engine factory. It is not a re-creation or collection of artifacts. The Soule' site is a late 19th-early 20th century factory complex with much of its original features. It appears that workers walked away from their work about 1948 with everything awaiting their return. Students will see how things were made in the Foundry, Pattern-Making Shop, Blacksmith Forge, belt-driven, precision Machine Shop, 1930s office and much more. Students will learn that steam was man’s first portable power source, how it changed our economy and continues to impact our lives today. They will learn about George W. Soule’ and other Mississippi inventors and entrepreneurs. As students walk through the factory, they will see how hard people worked in the early years of the American Industrial Revolution. The current exhibition at the museum is also educational. Celebrating America’s Industrial Revolution: WORK, a collaboration between the Museum and Smithsonian, is a self-guided tour that celebrates the American worker and illustrates industrial progress between 1870 and 1914. Cost for Field Trip/Student Group admission is $3.00 per student (our regular student price is $7.00). Children and students get FREE ADMISSION at the Soulé Live Steam Festival on Friday, November 1, 2025.
